Billy And Charley Lead Pendant
Billy and Charley lead medallion/pendant.
Billy Smith & Charley Eaton were mudlarkers in London
during the mid 1800s and decided to out wit the Antiquarian
collectors with their fake lead and metal items supposedly from
the medieval period. Many carry dates and legends with no apparent meaning due to their illiteracy. Famously known as the Shadwell Forgeries they have become very collectable and this example does appear to have been excavated due to its wear and patination. Showing a seated King and on the reverse a Knight in chainmail with spear. Size 8.4cm in diam - 10.5 top to bottom
including hanger.
