This is an an antique copy of Religio Medici by Sir Thomas Browne. An English language book, published by Macmillan & Co, London in the early 20th century, dated 1915.
A seventeenth century work, Religio Medici - in English, The Religion of a Doctor - was written by Sir Thomas Browne (1605 - 1682). An English Polymath and author, Browne authored works on a wide variety of subjects. Noted for a sense of melancholy and wit, his works held great influence in period. At one point listed upon the Pope's prohibition list, Browne's first effort Religio Medici of 1643 sought to use scientific imagery to illustrate religious truths.
Presented in good antique order, intact and with minimal markings
Delightful cobalt blue hard binding with tooled title to spine and GTS seal to cover
Published in the Golden Treasury Series by MacMillan & Co, this copy dated 1915
Frontispiece hosts an etched portrait, likely of Browne himself
Across 392 pages, with footnotes and excerpts adding key detail with 55 page preface
