This is an antique copy of Grandeur des Romains by Montesquieu. An Anglo-German book printed in French, depicting the rise and fall of the Roman empire, dating to the Victorian period, circa 1860.
Full Title Considerations sur les causes de la Grandeur des Romains et de leur Decadence par Montesquieu. First published in 1734, and further revised in 1748 by Montesquieu, the book covers the period of 753 BC with the founding of the Roman Empire and concludes in 1453 AD at the Falling of Constantinople. This cosmopolitan edition is published in the original French, by London-based Mudie's Select Library and printed in Germany. The author's full name is Charles Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu.
In lightly worn, antique condition - some coloration to the spine but pleasingly intact
Bound in fabric, presenting a wonderful foliate pattern with gilt tooled title
Graced with an eye-catching, gilt finished fleur-de-lys inside cover lining
