19th.c. Anglo-Colonial Planters Chair. oriental exotic armchair %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
A fabulous and very large 19th.c. Anglo-Colonial planter’s chair c.1880. Designed for whiling away time on the veranda during the heat of the day the arms are wide enough to hold a drink, a plate of food etc and the elegantly raked seat and backrest is canework to allow air to circulate around the sitter. The lower section of the arms spins open to make foot rests so you can put your legs up to sleep!
Carved exotic timber frame with original canework seat, turned arm supports and original handmade screw pivot. With legs carved in the form of oriental dragons on the back and Hindu gods on the front suggesting a South East Asian origin to this remarkable chair.
In very good condition, cane work is exceptional, sold together with an upholstered cushion.
