Academy Fine Paintings is an international fine art dealership based in Buckinghamshire, England. We specialise in 19th century British and European oil paintings by some of the most important artists of the period, from Victorian landscapes and subject pictures to Belle Epoque portraits and Orientalist scenes. My name is Gavin Claxton and after 20 years in television and film I turned my passion for collecting fine art into a business. I also appear on BBC television as a fine art expert.

Inspired by a connoisseur’s eye for authenticity, quality and condition, AFP is a gallery founded on the principles and preoccupations of an art collector rather than just the motivations of the art dealer. With this in mind, no painting is offered for sale until it is in the finest condition it can be for its age. Each one is first professionally appraised by one of the UK's most experienced fine art conservators and any necessary restoration carried out to the highest professional standards. Where possible our paintings are sold in their original frames, but when an antique frame has gone beyond the point where restoration is not an option, we re-hang the painting in a newly commissioned bespoke gold metal leaf carved wooden frame. These are made to order for us by one of the UK’s finest period frame makers. I am always happy to advise clients old and new - without charge - on any aspect of collecting.
