Description

An early 17th century english carved oak coffer ,James 1st period C1603 - 1625 . The coffer has a beautiful fascade with a triple panelled frontage with gillouche belts forming the top rail and central components, the panels decorated with matching geometric cartouches, which is similar in design to some surviving 17th century stucco ceilings that can be found in a few properties around the UK.

The chest is in good untouched condition, there are a few restorations, the top half of the loup hinges have been replaced, and there are a few losses commensurate with age.

This is a lovely piece of early english furniture with a splendid patina.
