1930's Petrol Pump

Photos

Description

An original Beckmeter 1930's petrol pump, in an unrestored condition. Slightly unusual as they have a hand crank pump and were made just before the first full electric versions. Beckmeter models were available in two sizes, a rather austere looking pump with a clock dial which unlike most other pumps does not have a cast iron base. BP were a big customer of this company. Hand operated petrol pumps were first installed commercially around 1920 by companies such as the Anglo American Oil Company, Shell, and British Petroleum. Each petrol company had its own livery and branding and some of these liveries looked particularly stunning which helped to draw the motorist to their pumps.
