Description

A solid oak washstand from the Edwardian period, with an exceptionally rare tiled splash back. Simple green tiles form a frame for a pair of decorative castle ruins set on an elevated outcrop as twilight descends. In the centre is a full length tile most of which is taken up with a most magnificent stag a bay, very similar in style to the Victorian highland oil paintings by Sir Edwin Landseer. Whilst the tiles are the highlight, it would make the rest of the washstand appear a little plain. But take a second look and you may notice little details that give another story. There is a hairline crack to one of the plain green tiles. The crisply turned legs, the shapely fretted apron below the pair of doors both with arched fielded (bevelled) panels. A pair of towel rails aside of the pink/liver coloured marble top. All finished off with a superbly detailed top pediment. This washstand could quite likely be of Scottish origins and is a complete one off.
