Description

An unusually expressive and well painted oil on canvas of a beautiful and enigmatic young woman or forest nymph draped in pale blue and white silk and with a wild rose and mistletoe garland in her hair.

Beautifully executed, she is caught in a moment full of vitality and confidence, the artist draws our gaze to her blue eyes and with a very sensitive use of light and tone gives depth and texture to her hair and her porcelain skin. The mistletoe berries glisten in her hair as though just picked.

The painting is unsigned but by a highly skilled artist and dates from c. 1780The gilt and gesso frame of considerable age and probably original, both frame and painting in excellent condition.

Dimensions are:

Frame is 24 inches high, 21 inches wide, 2.5 inches deep.

Painting is 16.5 inches high by 13.5 inches wide.
