Description

Pair of Fine 19th Century Enamel on Porcelain Portraits in Baroque Frames c. 1840

A pair of early 19th century enamel portraits of young women, painted on white porcelain slips housed in heavily embossed solid brass frames decorated with barouque scrolls and foliage.

The portraits superbly observed and beautifully painted, the colours still vibrant and in excellent original condition, with no over painting or restorations.

The frames contemporaneous and original to the slips, nice colour and warmth to the brass and the frames have never been heavily polished.

Probably German and dating from around 1840, not KPM in my view but of very fine quality The white porcelain slips are stamped with an A to the reverse.

Frames in very good condition with no significant issues. Porcelain plaques have no damage to surface or rim of each plaque, a couple of small nibbles to the back, on the foot, as shown on our photographs.

Intended for wall hanging, would make a wonderful Christmas gift.
