Description
With a beautiful natural colour and rich patination, a very high quality George III mahogany chest on chest of elegant and well balanced proportions, and retaining all original brass handles and escutcheons. The chest with a wide splayed double ogee cornice over two short frieze drawers and six long graduated drawers all with beautifully grained mahogany fronts of excellent colour. All of the drawers run smoothly with solid oak original linings with very finely cut dovetails.
The chest with original brushing slide.
Of a practical and usable size, not too tall so that the top drawers are easy to reach and use.
The chest sits level and firm on its original tall and shapely bracket feet. Original backboards also.
There is an old key that works all of the locks other than two.
In very good original and entirely usable condition with a few small dings and marks and old restorations.
From a large London property, a really heavy and well made Georgian chest on chest dating from c. 1800, offered here at a very low price, this is highly recommended and a genuine bargain.
Maximum dimensions are: 72 inches tall, 44 inches wide and 22 inches deep.
Lower case is 37 inches tall from floor.
Drawer heights from top down are: top two short drawers 5.5 inches, second drawer 6.5 inches, third 7 inches and fourth drawer 8 inches. Fifth is 6.75 inches, sixth is 7.75 inches and bottom drawer in 8.75 inches.
