Charming William and Mary Oak Lowboy c. 1690

Description
A most attractive and elegant late 17th Century oak lowboy with a lovely natural and well developed patina and rich warm colour. The single drawer with original oak lining and early, possibly original, brass drop handles with snaped fixings, filigree backplates and brass penny engraved drops – the engraving now worn smooth from use.
The drawer void is framed by a lovely ogee moulded border and the drawer itself has a slim outer border carved in the solid.
The drawer opens and closes smoothly, is sturdy, clean and capacious, providing a lot of storage.
The wide oversailing top of three slender oak boards with medullary rays has a shaped outer border carved in the solid.
All set on tall finely ring turned legs with original tall peg feet (the leg and peg feet turned from a continuous length of oak) and united by the original box stretcher with channel carved and shaped upper face.
Peg jointed throughout with original very small squared pegs.
Sturdy and stable, the lowboy is in very good original condition with only minor knocks and nibbles.
Really pretty, a lovely side, wine or lamp table which will look superb in a traditional cottage or modern interior.
Oodles of charm, a useful small size, sturdy and entirely usable after 330 years and generations of service – a credit to the 17th century craftsman who made it.
Dimensions are:
27.5 inches high, 29 inches wide and 23 inches deep.
