Description

A good George II walnut bureau c. 1740 of warm rich colour and condition and of a small and compact size.
Beautiful matched burr walnut veneers to the drawer fronts, top and fall front, each with featherbanded borders and the with excellent figuring.

Lovely walnut interior with original sliding panel to reveal the well below, and convex shaped drawers (one with partitions for the original ink wells) each with very fine oak linings.

The principal drawers are oak lined also and open and close smoothly.

All set on original bracket feet and retaining original timbers throughout including the backboards.

A good example with working key to the fall and separate working key to the inner door which opens to reveal a bank of three drawers, each again with fine oak linings.

Heavy and robust and entirely usable with a very good colour and naturally deep patination.


Dimensions are:

37.5 inches wide, 21 inches deep and 42 inches high. Depth when fall is open is 35 inches deep. Floor to writing surface is 31 inches.
