Antique Gold, Amethyst and Pearl Brooch

1 of 6
Description
Murrle Bennett & Co., was a jewellery business which started in London in 1884. It had a second workshop and retail presence in Pforzheim, Germany. The founders were Ernst Murrle and J.B. Bennett and the company was known for high quality British jewellery and for fine imported jewels. The firm was sold in 1916 and renamed White, Redgrove & Whyte..
This is a very large oval cut amethyst set in 15CT gold and with a seed pearl set border. The amethyst is a beautiful deep lavender colour and multifaceted to accentuate the colour and sparkle. The gold with double millgrain borders between which the seed pearls are set. The reverse of the brooch stamped Murrle Bennet and 15CT with a simple pin clasp which is original.
.
An extremely pretty and charming 19th century brooch in excellent original condition. The seed pearls are original and are inset in cream with five in the less common silver grey – intentionally set as a configuration of 4 and 1 – so perhaps made to commemorate a 41st birthday.
