Queen Anne Period Walnut Dressing Table Mirror

1 of 6
Description
A very beautiful early 18th century walnut dressing table mirror with serpentine fronted drawers and cushion frame. Such mirrors are rare, and it is unusual and desirable to find one which has retained its original walnut cresting. Here the cresting has a lovely hand carved heart to its centre and below this, two deeply carved scrolls. With three short over one long drawer, with original brass button handles and each open and closes very smoothly. Each of the drawers with original and very fine oak linings and tiny dovetailed joints and all with clean interiors. The central and lower drawer fitted in the 18th century with small locks (with original working key) and engraved Georgian escutcheons.
The mirror plate appears original and is hand made, with foxing and areas of degradation to the plate but not affecting use and the mirror gives a beautifully deep and clear reflection .
The mirror is set between turned uprights with original brass catches which allow the mirror to be set in various positions.
The figured walnut veneers are very thick and original also with a few old and well blended repairs. A couple of very old worm holes – long since dead and hard to find and small losses, bruises and marks consistent with age and very careful use.
Original finish and deep patina, with a wonderful mellow and warm colour to the walnut.
And all set on four original flattened bun feet with ring turnings.
A very fine quality Queen Anne dressing mirror in excellent condition for age and made by a master craftsman in c. 1710.
Dimensions are:
14 inches wide, 7.5 inches deep and 28 inches high.
