Charming George I Elm and Oak Box Stool c. 1730
Description
A very small early 18th century box stool made in elm and oak hand hewn boards and designed as a chest of drawers with three faux drawers each with original brass drop handles and applied ‘drawer’ mouldings. The stool was made by hand in around 1730 and retains its original riveted iron hinges and bracket feet and all the timbers are original also including the shaped block attached to the nailed up back boards which allows the lid to lift and rock back to rest firmly when open. With a clean and solid original oak interior, a beautiful and practical antique furnishing piece providing a good amount of storage space. The perfect height to be used as a lovely side table, woul also work well as a log or laundry box, or a stool.
Very pretty, charming and substantial.
In good condition throughout, old shrinkage crack to front boards as shown – extremely old and not going anywhere, and some losses, small dings, marks and knocks consistent with age and use.
Excellent natural colour and patination.
Dimensions are:
19.5 inches wide, 15.5 inches deep and 19 inches high.
