Description

A very good mirror of elegant Gothic form - of very large proportions and in lovely original condition.

The tall pediment centred with pierced carved quatrefoil and surrounded by carved oak leaves. The mirror plate flanked by tall Corinthian columns over a slightly breakfront plinth. The plate appears original with very thick glass (about half an inch) which reflects perfectly and has a most attractive and atmospheric soft grey/blue hue. The plate excellent order with no noticeable faults or degredation. The frame with minor dings and scuffs to the gilding and a few old nail holes on the back of the frame from previous backboards. Original blocks throughout which hold the plate in place.

Two large brass brackets are attached to the rear of the frame for hanging or fixing to a wall if placed on a mantle. These brackets could be used to run copper wire between for hanging but the mirror is heavy and we would strongly recommend fitting screwed wall fixings if hanging the mirror.

A very handsome and large Victorian mirror of a rarely found Gothic revival design, in the Arts and Crafts manner and of ecclesiastical form.
