William IV Rosewood Specimen Marble Top Table

Description

Fine William IV period 19th century Grand Tour circular rosewood specimen marble top table. The marble top is supported on a shaped rosewood veneered frieze and adorned with crisply turned solid rosewood finials. The single carved and turned pedestal is made in the solid and is raised on out-swept 'French Hepplewhite style' legs that terminate on scrolled feet. The table design and style relate to 'Fancy Tables' from 'Neo Classical Furniture Designs' by Thomas King 1829.
The specimen marble top has well over a hundred specimens on display and the top would have been purchased as a souvenir from Italy when on a Grand Tour. We have highlighted a few specimens below and would point out that the green piece works very well in the middle. This piece is malachite. The other striking colour is the small blue quartz stone that sits well in the overall design.
A few of the notable marble specimens are:
Alpha Escalettes, Black Marquina, Lourdes Coquina, and Sienna Brocatene.
