Description

A Mettlach Art Nouveau style glazed and unglazed pineapple vase, c 1890s. Makers marks to the bottom: Castle mark, Mettlach, 1241, 28. There has been some restoration (professionally done) to the join at the neck, it is not visible at all on the outside, barely visible from the inside..

Mettlach wares were made by a pottery founded in Mettlach, Germany. It was famous for producing plaques, vases, jardinières, table wares, and other decorative wares. In 1836 the factory merged with another one, founded by Nicolas Villeroy, to form the famous ceramic company Villeroy & Boch (V&B). By the late 19th century V&B had seven factories altogether, but the one at Mettlach, most famous and celebrated for its production of steins and these beautiful decorative wares.
