Description

A rare pair of original 18th century hand-coloured horse prints from 'L'art de monter a cheval: ou Description du manége moderne, dans sa perfection' by Baron D'Eisenberg (German, ca. 1700–ca. 1770), and engraved by Bernard Picart (French, 1673–1733), c.1747.

The following horses are depicted: Le Barbe Plate II and Le Turc Plate VI

They are displayed within attractive pine frames and ivory coloured mounts decorated with hand-painted lines.

These horse engravings are highly desirable and, though they rarely appear on the market, have a history of making strong prices in top London auction rooms.

Condition: Very good original condition. One of the pictures from the a related pair (acquired from the same source) was taken apart and the engraving held to the light to confirm that it was printed on hand laid paper with coat of arms watermark. The frames are also in very good condition.
