Large 18th Century Polychrome Carving of a Saint

Description
An 18th century European polychrome painted wood carving of a religious figure, probably a saint, of imposing size. It is attractively distressed from age and handling with a separately carved head that slots into the top of the torso. While the figure's right hand rests on the chest, the outstretched left hand may have originally held something (now lost). Sadly, we have no history of the piece but the style of the carving and decoration would suggest a Continental European origin, possibly French or Spanish.Dimensions: Height 63 x Width 19 x Depth 16 cm
Weight 1.68 kg
Condition: Very good antique condition with wear to the painted decoration. There's a small stable shrinkage split to the base. A small iron loop on the back of the figure would have been used to secure the sculpture to a niche in a church wall and is probably responsible for the sculpture's good preservation.
