Anthony Rickards Oil Painting - Still Life 1979

Description
Framed and signed oil on board of a Still Life painted by Anthony Rickards in 1979. It was exhibited at the United Artists Exhibition at the Mall Galleries in 1980. Apples and leeks lie haphazardly on a rumpled table cloth together with a 1950s Brown Betty teapot, a glass carafe and a knife. It is painted in pastel colours and in an impressionistic style for which Rickards is best known. Rickard's paintings fit well in a variety of interior designs from minimalist to traditional.Condition: Very good though there is a horizontal mark across the larger apple - perhaps from something resting against it while the paint was drying. This painting was one of seven acquired unframed directly from the artist's daughter, this being the largest. A double frame has been professionally made and the wider outer frame painted with three coats including two top coats of Farrow & Ball Lamp Room Gray Estate Eggshell for interior wood.
Dimensions: Frame height 45.5 x Width 57 cm.
Painted board 34 x 45.5 cm
Postage & packing: £18 within the UK.
Biography: Anthony J. Rickards, ROI 1919-1993
After serving in the Royal Navy during the war, Anthony Rickards trained at Hornsey School of Art in London. His initial interest was in etching, but he soon developed a distinctive watercolour style. During the 70's he moved on to painting in oil and almost all his later work is in this medium.
During his life he travelled widely, gaining inspiration for his landscape paintings from his visits to the Middle East, Iceland, Greece, Menorca and Italy. In the 1980s he led painting holidays on the island of Paxos, Greece.
He has exhibited widely and sold his work at numerous private galleries, in Cork Street in London, on many occasions at the Royal Academy Summer Show, the Mall Galleries, The London Sketch Club in Chelsea and Spink and Son.
In 1992 Anthony Rickards was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in recognition of his work.
