An attractive unframed watercolour of 'Aldeburgh' signed by Sydney Maiden and dated 3rd May 1956 afternoon. It depicts a view looking south including the sea and beach with people strolling and sitting, fishing boats perched on the shingle and with some of the town's buildings lining the foreshore.

Biography: Sydney Joseph Fabricius Maiden was a landscape and figurative painter in oil and watercolour. He was born in India in 1893 and served as an officer in the East Kent Regiment in both wars. He lived in London and later in Chipstead, near Sevenoaks, Kent. He exhibited in the 1930s at the Goupil Gallery, the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy. Sydney Maiden's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with a range of realised prices depending on the size and medium of the artwork. The record price for this artist at auction is 2,332 USD for an oil on canvas of Ramsgate harbour, sold in 2012.
