Description

A stunning Indian brass mounted and inlaid hardwood spice cabinet comprising three cupboards and five drawers dating from the early to mid 20th century. The top bears brass mounts to all four edges and an ornate pierced brass inlaid central diamond and pierced brass designs to the corners. The heart theme seen in the corners is continued with the escutcheons on the cupboard doors. All doors and drawers are outlined in brass with the doors also inlaid with a curvilinear design reminiscent of Mughal temple architecture. The Mughal design continues with the shaped inserts inside the cupboards.

All doors are fitted with working locks and keys and all the drawers drawers can also be locked via brass rods which slot into holes in the cupboard compartments and then into the drawer front tops for the bottom row of three or into the drawer sides for the top two. The locks and keys are stamped with the manufacturer's name 'Eveready', an Indian company established in 1905.
