Description

A small early 19th century Tunbridge Ware print and paint decorated white wood box. The lid bears a rectangular transfer print of Dover Harbour in what appears to be blustery conditions with a number of small rowing and sailing boats being tossed around by the waves. A further boat appears to have just come ashore and is being pulled up the beach while the outline of Dover Castle can be observed top left of the view. The print is surrounded by hand-painted double black borders. The lid opens with a small ribbon to reveal its original pink paper-lined and compartmentalised interior. The underside of the lid bears a retailer's label for 'Royal Bazaar, Dover'
