Description

This is a very large pair of Victorian Ecclesiastical floor standing brass telescopic candle stands of superb quality. The circular top is secured on a stepped collar and cylindrical pole which slides up and down in an hexagonal cross section column supported by three ribbon shaped legs terminating in scroll feet. The legs are connected to each other near the base by a circular stretcher and to the central column by straight stretchers. The column broadens at the base below the stretchers concealing a lead weight which provides excellent rigidity and stability by lowering the centre of gravity. An attractive decorative detail is the brass 5-petal flowers which form the nuts on the bolts securing the legs to the column and to the circular stretcher.

Though these could be used as candle stands in a gothic inspired reception room they are, perhaps, more suited as plant stands (with an interesting story to tell - if only we knew it) in a modern interior.

When not extended height is 88 cm (34 1/2 inch)

Condition: Excellent condition with all parts present and working. The brass has been cleaned in our workshop.
