Description

This is a wonderful Provincial Georgian circular tilt-top table on a pedestal base with three cabriole legs, circa 1770. Coincidentally, this is the second of such tables that we have acquired within months of each other. The top on this table is made from 2 planks of cherry which have faded to a a warm pale brown with a reddish tint. It retains its original waxed finish together with old ink stains and marks as you might expect from a 250 year old table, and which we think just add to its character!

The turned column and legs are also in good original condition without repairs and possessing an attractive lustrous finish. The column is a similar colour to the top and is also made of cherry. The legs being made of elm have a more open and prominent grain characteristic of that wood and lack the reddish tint seen in the top and column.

This characterful table would make a useful occasional table or a supper table.

Dimensions: Top diameter 76 x 78 cm
Height 72 cm

Condition: The table is in good antique condition with no observable repairs. It has a lovely mellow colour and good patination. The top has numerous ink and heat stains from two and a half centuries of use and there is a couple of closed splits. The table has been gently cleaned and waxed in our workshop.
