Description

This is a small Black Forest etui finely carved with grapes and vine leaves, made in Switzerland in the late 19th to early 20th century. The snug fitting lid serves as a thimble, and when pulled off its base reveals a combined needle holder and cotton reel for three different coloured threads. The wood is of relatively light colour and is presumed to be lindenwood, the straight grain and ease of working making it the preferred choice of the Black Forest carver.

Dimensions: Height 9.5 cm x Diameter 3.3 cm
Weight 23 g

Condition: The thimble has a split on one side and only about half of the lid to the needle holder has survived. With the exception of these minor faults it is in good antique condition.

Postage & packing: £5 within the UK. Please contact us for a quote if you live overseas.
