Georgian Domed Brass-studded Leather Trunk

Description
This is a small Georgian domed, brass-studded leather travel trunk in good condition with its original paper lining including an interesting maker's label for J. Shepherd, c.1800.It has a brass carrying handle on the lid below which is a brass plate engraved with the owner's name 'Col. W. Miles'. It is, therefore, very likely that this small trunk went on campaign with the Colonel to one or more parts of the Empire. The interior is lined with antique newspaper and decorated with a pattern of black dots. The maker's label carries the following inscription: 'John Shepherd Trunk Maker & Undertaker, No 90, near the Bull Inn, Bishopsgate Street, LONDON. All sorts of trunks, Chests, Liquor Cases, Boxes, Packing Cases, for the East & West. Indian & American Trade.
