Description

This is a fine boxwood carving of a comical character standing on one foot while holding a large fish on his head, Japanese Meiji period.

This little figure brings a smile to your face. The carver working with a single piece of boxwood has fashioned a chubby cheeked man in a tunic with billowing sleeves dancing while balancing a huge fish on his hat.

Condition: The carving is in fine condition without losses. However, a darkish line around the ankle suggests an old repair (see close-up).
