Description

This is a beautifully made High Back Windsor Chair from figured elm and ash by one of the great late 20th century exponents of the craft - Barry Murphy of Windmill Hill, East Sussex. His label and the initials BMM for Barry Michael Murphy are located on the underside of the seat.

The chair is superbly turned, carved and joined from the best local wood - and would have taken several weeks to make in the 1980s. All joints are firm and the proportions are generous. This would make an interesting addition to a collection of Windsor chairs as it is a clear demonstration that the craft was still thriving a hundred years or more after its heyday albeit by artisan craftspeople providing bespoke items for discerning customers.

Dimensions:
Height 115 cm (45 inch)
Width (max at arms) 64 cm (25 inch)
Width of seat at front 49 cm (19 1/2 inch)
Depth of seat 48 cm (19 inch)
Height of seat 43 cm (17 inch). This is approximate as the seat is dished.

Condition: Excellent with just a few marks commensurate with age.

Delivery: This chair can be delivered to most places on mainland England and Wales for £50 by our trusted delivery person. You can also arrange your own courier if you prefer or collect in person from the Tunbridge Wells area.
