Description

This is an original Japanese woodblock print of a kabuki actor by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861), circa 1842. It depicts the actor Arashi KichisaburĂ´ III playing the role of Datebei. It is the left sheet of a triptych with the tree, the trunk of which can be observed near bottom right with the blossom overhead, separating this actor from a figure in the centre sheet. An example of the complete triptych is in The Museum of Fine Arts Boston.

Dimensions: Image 35 x 21 cm, mount 48 x 37 cm

Condition: The image is in good condition with some fading of the colours and some patchy discolouration. There have also been a few repairs of worm holes. The left margin has been trimmed as both the artist's and actor's names are no longer present. The print will be sent within an old mount to which it is attached using what appears to be small pieces of conservation tape. These can be easily cut and the image remounted if required.
