Original Japanese Woodblock Print by Toyokuni II

Description
This is an original Japanese woodblock print of a kabuki actor by Toyokuni II, (also known as Toyoshige, 1777-1835), Edo Period early 19th century. It depicts the actor Bando Mitsugoro in the role of a samurai. He is shown with determined face, kneeling and ready to defend or attack with left hand outstretched holding a long bamboo pole. It is a wonderful image full of tension though we don't see his adversary.Dimensions: Height 34 cm by Width 24 cm
Condition: The print is a good impression, faded with several small worm holes. There is some loss to bottom left corner and a repair to near bottom right. It is attached at the top corners to a thin yellowed card. It was removed from its frame and the frame discarded due to its poor condition, but we have attached some pictures of the print in its frame for the record.
