This is a stunning table top comprising a mosaic of fossilized tree trunks sliced in cross-section to reveal their detailed internal structure on a low hardwood, probably teak, base. The wood belongs to Araucaria sp. from the Triassic period (>225 million years ago) and was quarried in Madagascar. The base was probably made in southern Africa in fourth quarter 20th century. This is a real statement piece which would make a very decorative, much talked about and unusual coffee table.

The table was acquired by a diamond mining family who brought it back to the UK from South Africa. Similar table tops on simple bases have sold at Christies for in excess of £3,000 realised price, an example being the table which sold for £3,250 at their Online Auction 14652: Sculpted by Nature - Fossils, Minerals and Meteorites on 17th April 2018.

Dimensions: Top 4 x 2ft. Thickness 1 1/4 in. Height 14 1/2 in.

Condition: Top and base are in excellent vintage condition. The top is not veneered, the tree trunks extend the full thickness of the top.
