Description

This is a charming six plank elm coffer / trunk of good colour and patina, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century.

The single plank top with its original applied moulded edge opens on the original iron hinges to reveal an open interior. The elm is nicely figured throughout and though the top is charmingly warped in the centre it fits snugly over the sides of the box. The box is of dovetailed construction with the only nails used to apply the floor to the sides.

Dimensions: Width 99 cm Depth 49 cm Height 46 cm

This is a good sized box with plenty of room for storage.

Condition: This coffer is in nice original condition with a lovely mellow colour and patina. The lock is missing and the escutcheon, though antique, was probably attached later. There is old woodworm particularly in the floor. There are no shrinkage splits in the wood.

Delivery: This coffer can be delivered to anywhere on mainland England and most of Wales for £50. If you were to buy additional items from us then the incremental cost for their delivery is likely to be small, if any.
