Description

This is a stylish bent beechwood rocking chair by the Czech firm TON (formerly Thonet) dating from the 1960's, and recently upholstered in a red chenille fabric.

In 1861 Michael Thonet established a factory in Czechoslovakia, but in 1953 it was nationalised by the Czech government who renamed it TON (an acronym of the Czech words, 'a factory for bentwood furniture'). This design from the late 1950's has to be a contender for the most stylish looking rocking chair ever conceived!
The TON label is usually placed on the underside of the seat but this is hidden, if still present, by the black cotton fabric lining.

Condition: The woodwork is in good original condition with light wear commensurate with its age. There is a small shallow split at the end of one of the arms which is not serious but I mention for completeness. The upholstery is in good condition, which is not surprising given that is very recent in date.

Delivery: This chair is waxed and ready to be delivered to your home. It can be delivered to anywhere on mainland England and most of Wales for £50 by our trusted delivery man who is an expert in transporting antique furniture and artwork. Any other items which you may wish to purchase at the same time would only incur a small, if any, incremental charge for their delivery.
