Description

This is a stunning French chest of three long drawers in Louis XVI style dating from Late 19th Century which has room presence in abundance.

The top is a beautiful variegated marble in which jasper red is the dominant colour with white, black and grey as subordinate colours. The chest is veneered in mahogany with walnut panels to the sides and drawer fronts. The drawers are cross-banded in rosewood and inlaid with a pair of boxwood lines which frame the central book-matched walnut panels.

There are decorative brass mounts at the top of the canted corners the apron and the two front feet. The drawers each have two circular brass ring-pull handles and an elaborate escutcheon.

The drawers are oak-lined with dovetail joints.

This is an eye catching piece of furniture with plenty of storage in its three drawers.

Condition: The chest is in excellent condition with a few marks commensurate with it having been well-looked after during its 120 plus years history. It has been through our workshop for some very minor veneer repairs, where it was also cleaned and waxed. The marble top is in perfect condition - no chips or cracks. It is very heavy but can be lifted from the chest for ease of transport.
