Description

This is a beautiful antique pair of fine quality Chinese tables dating from the early 20th century, circa 1900 to 1920.

The tops of the tables are inlaid with cloisonné decoration set within a solid brass beading. The design is particularly attractive comprising a yellow vase with flowers, a two handled purple pot on a green table, a green censer, a musical instrument and a bowl of fruit, all set within a turquoise background. With the exception of the top the 5-legged tables are lacquered and gilded with bands of Greek key, scrolling foliage and, on the apron, with butterflies which flutter among stylised flowers.

The tables measure 47 cms high and 41 cms in diameter at their widest. The diameter of the tops is 33cm.

The tables are both in very good antique condition. The cloisonné tops are excellent with no losses and the lacquering to the tables is generally in clean condition with just some wear on the edges of the apron and occasionally elsewhere. Some of the gilding has also rubbed.

These are versatile objects as they can also be used as stools or for displaying plants or pots as well as being useful drink and snack tables for the living room.
