Description

This is a super quality and unusual Georgian writing box with its original slope baton and original two part blue velvet writing slope, all in good condition. Circa 1810
Very decorative box and beautifully made as you would expect of a box from this superior writing box period!
The centre brass plaque is not engraved, so it is blank.
Original main lock for the box with key, in working order. A replacement lock has been fitted at some point to the internal slope.
Original locking pin for the hidden side drawer.
Four hidden secret drawers located and accessed under the ink wells, accessed by pressing down the righthand side well.
Original pen try and also the lid to the left is original.
You can see the underside of the lower slope is missing its cross ribbons for card storage, but this could be replaced if required.
Importantly, the slope baton is there. When not in use, it locates into the lower slope and fits perfectly into the outer brass holes on the slope as a book rest...very often these are missing or not original.
Super quality and a good proportion, whether you are looking at this as a decor piece or perhaps functional to store your ipad, this is certainly one of the better boxes available.
Hopefully the photos will do it justice!
