Description

A very impressive example of a William Moorcroft for James Macintyre "Poppy" Pattern Biscuit Barrel. In bold Art Nouveau style the barrel is lavishly tubeline decorated with stylised Ragged Poppy flowers framed and embelished with their own tendril foliage. The cylinder form barrel sits beautifully in it's purpose made Silver Plate carrier and handle, the bars of which frame the floral displays perfectly. Measures 23 cm tall (handle up) x 15.5 cm across. Bears a Florianware brown stamp to the base along with a signed in green "W.M. des". Dates to circa 1900.
