Description

Pretty 18th century Worcester fluted dish painted with a "fancy bird" in an exotic landscape. A royal blue band runs around the scalloped edge framed with gilding and the dish is further decorated with 6 finely gilded arced festoons creating a frame for the central vignette. Marked to the reverse with the Wigornia "W". A similar dish is illustrated in "Coloured Worcester Porcelain Of The First Period" by Marsall plate 16, item 273.

It measures 8 1/4" (21cm) wide and 1 1/2" (4cm) high. Condition is very good: there is a fine hairline in the glaze that runs for a short section under the central image and includes a small glaze flake. No body damage or restoration. A bit of surface wear to the enamel and the gilding on the rim and in just a couple of small spots to the raised garlands. There a couple of small firing lines also.
