Early Worcester Two Quail Pattern Cup & Saucer

Description
Very pretty early Worcester coffee cup and saucer in the Two Quail pattern, c.1765. Fluted shape with scalloped edges, the cup also has an unusual Meissen-style twist handle with acanthus leaf moulded terminals. Beautifully painted with very fine detail in polychrome enamels in the kakiemon palette with rich blue, iron red and bright green and with pretty pale turquoise borders. Finely picked out with gilding and both pieces with gilded rims. The cup measures 7cm (2 3/4") high, 7 (2 3/4") rim to rim and 9.5cm (3 3/4") rim to handle. The saucer measures 14.3cm (5 5/8") wide and 3.2cm (1 1/4") high. Condition is very good with no damage or restoration. Very light surface wear in the main and to the enamels but there are few small gilding flake losses to the rim of the saucer in a couple of places. The cup does have some areas of kiln dust contamination.
