Description

A rare Chamberlain porcelain small double handled cup with openwork pierced double walls and bamboo moulded handles. The rims are painted in bright enamels in a Persian style with sulphur yellow, red, blue, green, purple and black with ornate gilt decoration to the inside and edging the honeycomb piercing. Rather incongruously, on either side under the handles are painted a pair of very English style vignettes of fruit and flowers. Chamberlain Worcester mark to the underside. c.1846-1848.

Reference: Chamberlain-Worcester Porcelain, Godden, pages 168-170, plates 211, 212 and 213.

It measures 4.2cm (1 5/8") high, 6.3cm (2 1/2") wide and 10.2cm (4") across the handles.

In good display condition: one handle has been restored and the other has a neat repair. There is some very good quality restoration to both pierced panels. Two small losses to the surface covering of this work to the lowest row. Minor handling wear.
