Description

This is a fine early camphorwood Colonial military campaign secretaire bookcase-on-chest dating to the early 19th century. The patina and figuring to the grain is exquisite and the door and drawer fronts are inlaid with brass and ebony box stringing. The drawer fronts are fitted with super handles of a very unusual design and the secretaire is fitted with a Bramah lock which comes with a key.

The chest stands on original turned feet and the secretaire drawer has a good arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes and cupboard. Below the secretaire drawer are two short and two long drawers. The bookcase above has fielded panel doors and a single shelf to the inside and is designed to lift from the chest using the carrying handles to the side.

The overall measurements are
Width 98cm wide (38 1/2in)
Depth 51.5cm (20 1/4in)
