Description

This is a super Gillows quality Victorian walnut breakfront floor bookcase in the Regency style. It has decorative walnut simulated bamboo half columns to the front with a carved roundel above and below each one. The centre shelves are also edged to simulate bamboo and all the shelves are adjustable.

The doors are astragal glazed with fourteen panes of glass to each door and each is fitted with a lock that comes with a key. There is also a brass rail edging the centre door. The whole piece stands on splayed bracket feet.

In total there are four wooden shelves to the centre and two glass shelves to each side. The internal depths are 25cm at the side and 33.5 and 29cm in the central section.

Condition
The bookcase is in good solid condition for its age. We cannot get the left door lock to work (it has been left open), and the centre door is missing it’s escutcheon. One pane of glass on the left most door has a crack and there is fading and dead polish on the door surrounds and base. There are also three hard to notice holes to the back of the top. Overall it remains in attractive condition ready for immediate use.
