Description

This is a handsome Victorian three door breakfront wardrobe in a richly coloured and grained mahogany. It features a large anthemion and acanthus leaf carved motif to the middle of the arched moulded cornice. The centre mirror door opens to reveal four linen slide shelves above three graduated drawers with brass cup handles and dovetail joins. The shelves could easily be removed to provide extra hanging space if preferred.

The fielded panelled & crossbanded side doors each conceal a 44.5cm deep (17 1/2in) hanging section with a rail in a sliding frame and a base drawer to one side and a shoe/hat box to the other. Unfortunately, we do not have a key but the doors are fitted with locks and the original turned wooden handles.

This Victorian wardrobe is in good condition for its age. The mirror has been replaced at some point so is nice & clear. There is a bit of moulding missing at the very bottom edge of where the left door closes. Sadly, due to sunlight, the side panels are lighter (as shown in photographs) which makes some darker marks show up, there are some little bubbles in the veneer above the anthemion motif and a small round dent below, there are small losses to the veneer (see the top left door and cornice above) and also a scratch to the top left door panel. Finally, the twist open action on the left and centre doors does not work so a roller catch has been added to keep the left door closed whilst the centre door does not need one.

For transportation and moving this wardrobe splits into five sections and is easy to reassemble. The sections are 1) Cornice 2) Base 3) Left hanging section 4) Centre hanging section and 5) Right hanging section.
