Description

We are offering this lovely WWI watercolour over pencil oval portrait of a beautiful lady, which is monogrammed by the artist, unfortunately we cannot decipher it, and dated 1916 to the lower right hand side. The lady is obviously a follower of fashion, as she has her cut in the new bob style, short at the side and with a fringe. She has green eyes and a serene expression. She is wearing a low cut gown with a flower in the decolletage.

As we cannot decipher the monogram, we can offer no biographical information about the artist, unfortunately. The backing board bears a label from Mark White, Fine Art Dealer Picture Restorer and Frame Maker, 120A Mount Street, Berkeley Square, London W,

The painting is framed in what is probably its original 2 1/8" foliate embossed gilt frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Image size 20" x 15 7/8" - 50.8cm x 40.3cm

Frame size 24" x 20" - 61cm x 50.8cm

Medium Watercolours over pencil

Condition Very good condition for its age. There are a few small imperfections or foreign bodies in the paper, (not foxing), possibly because the paper was produced in wartime. The frame is in very good condition with no losses.
