Description

We are offering for sale this large standing Church Cross with oval turquoise Glass Cabochons. The four arms of the cross are of a trefoil shape, within which are the glass cabochons. It is possible that the cross was later ornamented. The cross is standing on a circular stepped base, with the typical eclestiastical pattern of holes around the central step, the bottom step with the inscription as follows 'A.M.D.G. AND IN MEMORY OF H.T.D'E AUG.19 1890 FROM F.G.C.' A.M.D.G. is the abbreviation in Latin meaning 'For the greater glory of God'. The inscription is not prominent.

This cross has been beautifully made with the typical craftsmanship and attention to detail of the Victorian period. The edging strip which encases the entire cross has been made separately and screwed onto the cross with tiny screws which are flush with the edging.
