Description

This is a wonderfully detailed portrait in gouache of a budgeridar named 'Cecil', by the nature artist Kenneth James Wood, who specialised in painting birds. He has signed the painting to the lower left hand side and dated it 1978. Cecil was a blue, male budgerigar and is pictured perched on a branch, with some campion flowers to either side.

Kenneth J. Wood 1936-1992, was born in Surrey and lived there for most of his life. He was a wildlife artist and keen falconer and member of the British Falconers' Club. He was Honorary Secretary of the Society of Wildlife Artists from 1983 until his death in 1992. He died at the relatively young age of 56.

He illustrated a series of 6 bird plates entitled Birds of the British Countryside for Royal Doulton and some of work appeared in print form. There are some auction results available for his work, mostly on findartinfo, with 10 results listed. There are also some examples shown on google images.

The painting has been newly double mounted in two tone acid free mountboard and is framed in a 3/4" copper coloured frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition Excellent. The mounts are new and the frame is in very good condition with only very minimal wear.
