We are offering for sale this very well executed still life oil on canvas by the 20th Century Croydon artist CONSTANCE M. COOPER, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner. The painting is a still life arrangement of a tall, slim glass vase filled with pussy willow and hazel catkins, with a red folder tied with ribbon behind it and three cloth covered books, with a japanese figurine holding the pages open, on the top one. There is a patterned table cloth draped over the table, and several shells, including a cowrie and a very large White Murex shell on the wooden surface to the right.
CONSTANCE M. COOPER 1905-1998 is a twentieth century British artist, who lived in Croydon, Surrey. She studied at Croydon College of Art and was elected to the Society of Women Artists, becoming their Vice President. She was also the President of Croydon Art Society for 22 years. According to their website, she had a business in London employing 23 girls in the design and construction of lampshades for royalty. She was a great supporter of the Scout movement and was largely responsible for the Society raising and donating many thousands of pounds to charities, including the Scouts. At one time she lived at 35 Shirley Park Road, Croydon.

The painting is framed in a 2 1/4" ornate swept gilt frame and will be supplied wired and ready to hang.

Condition Excellent. There are no repairs to the canvas, which is clean and taut. There is no craquelure, stretcher marks, or missing paint. The frame is in very good condition.
